YCW participants have used their recordings to successfully gain admission into institutions such as Curtis, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Juilliard, Colburn, Eastman, USC, UCLA and festivals like Tanglewood and Yellow Barn.

2024 YOUNG COMPOSERS WORKSHOP

Overview

Lessons

Prior to arrival, each participant will have 2 private lessons with the composition faculty in May.

Creation of New Works

Participants will each compose a new chamber work for instrumentations including strings, piano, flute and clarinet.

Workshop and Rehearsals

The pieces will be workshopped and rehearsed in depth by the Sunset Chamberfest performing artists. Performers have included members of the Calder Quartet, LA Opera Orchestra, LA Phil and award winning artists including MacArthur and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipients.

Mentorship and Lectures

Participants will receive mentorship and instruction from the renowned faculty led by Sean Friar. Past faculty have taught at institutions such as USC and the LA Phil, and have active national and international careers. Lecture and panel topics range from improvisation to electronic music, production and more.

Live Concert/Professional Recording

The program culminates in a public concert/recording session that will also be live-streamed.

Tuition and Financial Aid

  • Tuition for the 2024 YCW is $1000.

  • The application fee is $50.00 transaction fee. The application fee will be credited towards tuition costs for participants.

  • If you are requesting financial assistance, please indicate in the application and provide documentation.
