Sean Friar - Composition Faculty, Program Director
Composer and pianist Sean Friar writes music for orchestras, chamber ensembles, electronics, found objects, and invented instruments. A recipient of the Rome Prize, he has received commissions from ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic Scharoun Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, Ensemble Modern, and the American Composers Orchestra. Mr. Friar holds a Ph.D. in Composition from Princeton University, and undergraduate degrees in Music and Psychology from UCLA. He is based in Los Angeles and teaches composition at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.
