Maximus Chan - Young Composer

Composer and oboist, Max Chan is a high school junior at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, California.  Max is currently 1st Chair Oboe in Canyon Crest Academy's Wind Ensemble and Principal Oboe in San Diego Youth Symphony Conservatory Program Sinfonia and Wind Symphony.  Max was selected as 1st Chair Oboe All-District Honor Band for 3 years.  Max has studied Oboe under Steve Kramer for 5 years and played in master classes for Sarah Skuster, Principal Oboe for the San Diego Symphony.  

Inspired by a music exploration trip to Salzburg, Vienna and Munich, Max has been composing music for 2 years and is studying with USC Composition Professor Sean Friar.  He has attended San Francisco Conservatory masterclass led by Fifth House Chamber Ensemble composers Austin Wintory and Dan Visconti. Max’s orchestral works have been performed by his high school and youth symphonies. In addition, Max has composed for student produced films in his high school Envision program.  Max was awarded a merit scholarship to Brevard Music Institute’s Composition Program and will attend in June.  

When not playing or writing music, Max enjoys pole vaulting, gaming competitions and making puns.
