Maia Thomas - Young Composer

Maia Thomas is a Sophomore at the USC Thornton School of Music, where she studies music composition with Andrew Norman. As a Cinematic Arts minor, she combines her passion for film, visual arts and music by composing for student productions. She is also the composer of upcoming web series “Growing Up Immigrant”, to be aired on March 22nd. This year, three of her original compositions will be performed in March. “Coughing Fauna” for cello and tape track, and “Picnic” for vocal duet and live electronics, will both be performed at the Electro-Acoustic Showcase. “Images”, for tape track and dance duo, will be performed at the Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Thomas has been a member of the Music Teachers Association of California’s Young Composers Guild since 2015, for which she performed her piano-cello duet “Itazurakko”. She earned a Certificate of Merit with Honors for Piano Level 9 in 2014. She began independently composing in elementary school, during which she also first began taking piano lessons.
