Jonathan Dormand - Cello

Cellist Jonathan Dormand has performed internationally at venues including London's Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, New York's Weill Recital Hall, amongst others. He is a Laureate of the Isang Yun International Cello Competition 2012 and the recipient of a Major Incentive Grant from the Pierre Fournier Award 2015. An enthusiastic chamber musician, he has appeared at festivals including Yellow Barn, Ravinia, Verbier and is a regular performer at IMS Prussia Cove's 'Open Chamber Music'. Jonathan studied with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Northern College of Music, Laurence Lesser at New England Conservatory and Ralph Kirshbaum at USC Thornton School of Music. As a passionate performer of of contemporary music, Jonathan has performed and workshopped contemporary concertos with Ensemble TIMF, Thornton Edge, the Bournemouth and USC Symphony Orchestras.  Jonathan is frequently in demand as a guest principal cellist and has lead the cello sections of the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, amongst others. As a dedicated and passionate teacher, Jonathan has taught at Yellow Barn's Young Artist Program and is currently on the cello faculty at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
