Ferris Haukom - Young Composer

Ferris Haukom began playing piano at age 5. She currently studies violin and viola, and she also enjoys the guitar and the ukulele. She studies composition with Jordan Nelson, DMA, orchestral conducting with Maestro Maxim Eshkenazy at the Colburn School, and violin with Elizabeth Hedman at Pasadena Conservatory of Music. Ferris performs with the Los Angeles Opera, the Pasadena Conservatory of Music Chamber Quartet, the Colburn String Orchestra, and is the current co-principal viola for the Colburn String Ensemble.
Ferris draws inspiration from classical, alternative, and electropop music. In her compositions, she enjoys playing with contrasting tones and striking a harmonious balance between logic and creativity. Together, her varied passions complement each other in her creative process. Her other interests include astronomy and astrophysics.
