Charles Meenaghan - Young Composer

Charles Meenaghan is a junior at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. He began studying composition in his sophomore year. Last summer, he attended Interlochen Arts Camp, where he met fellow young composers for the first time and wrote for ensembles including the World Youth Wind Symphony. In the fall, he joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellowship Program and began studies with Professor Ian Krouse of UCLA. Recently, Charles had a work premiered by members of the LA Phil and placed in competitions including Golden Key, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Emerging Composers Competition, and Tribeca New Music Young Composers Competition. He looks forward to composing at Tanglewood Music Institute this summer and performances by Phantom Brass and his school orchestra in the fall. Aside from composition, Charles regularly participates in Junior Chamber Music and his school orchestra as a cellist, and has interests in computer science, tennis, and martial arts.
